After Friday night’s game, Roy Halladay moved his season record to 3-0. Halladay has been there and done that. He has had great records, a great earned run average and unhittable stuff. One thing Roy Halladay has not had is the one goal on his mind for 2010 – win a World Series title. After pitching 312 games in Toronto, Halladay has now thrown 24 innings in the National League, and allowed just 3 earned runs. Along with the deadly offense that the Philadelphia Phillies have, led by Ryan Howard and Chase Utley Roy Halladay is the key to the season in the city of brotherly love. The Phillies are off to an 8-2 start, and look like they have the potential to run away with the National League East. The Phillies lead baseball in runs scored, and with the big guns in the middle of the lineup, it appears they will keep that spot all season. How many wins Halladay will get going against the NL, and in front of a power house offense – we will find out, in September.
Halladay will turn 33 years old this spring, originally from the Denver, Colorado area; Roy has loved baseball from a young age. A six time All Star, Halladay has a great shot at being the starter for the mid summer classic for the second straight season. Roy led the American league last year, in their win. His 150-76 career record, and 3.41 earned run average is creeping on the verge of hall of fame material. Of course, Roy will need a few more years of dominance, but he is heading in that direction.
Roy is a very quiet individual, so his presence in Philadelphia will the rowdies could be a very strange fit. Halladay is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and lives daily by his morals. Roy has always been known for his generous donations, such as when he gave $10,000 to the Jays Care Foundation in each of his final four seasons in Toronto.
Ten games into the season surely do not tell the tape on a season, but thus far it looks like one of the good guys in the game of baseball will at least get a chance. With a run in postseason, Halladay could certainly cement himself as one of the greatest pitchers in the game of baseball.
